Best RPG PC Game or Expansion 2010

Ok guys, you had a month to vote for what you felt was the best PC RP game or expansion of 2010 and now 504 votes later it’s all closed. It was super close between Dragon Age: Orgins – Awakening and Mass Effect 2 but one had to be the winner.

Here are YOUR top 5.

5 – Divinity II: Ego Draconis

From the website:

Following the lineage of these two much-acclaimed RPGs, Divinity II: Ego Draconis has adapted many of the most famous elements that made these two original games classics. Divinity II: Ego Draconis makes use of the same classless system that was incorporated in Divine Divinity, which allows you to choose your own path as you become a Dragon Knight.

4 – Fallout: New Vegas

Bethesda’s only RPG release for 2010 made it’s way into the top 5 games. I was surprised that it didn’t rank higher though. I believe many gamers felt that they just ended up with an expansion for Fallout 3 which visually it did seem like that. However, gameplay and story wise it was classic Fallout thanks to the development team being largely from Obsidian Entertainment. Definitely worth checking out.

3 – World of Warcraft: Cataclysm

It’s not surprising that the third World of Warcraft expansion found it’s way to the top 3. The sheer number of WoW gamers was sure to give it’s placing a nice boost. This expansion, like the others, threw the game in it’s head with several new features such as Goblins and Worgens, new raid options and completely changed maps.

2 – Mass Effect 2

Mass Effect 2 scraped in at a close second. Bioware did a great job at responding to community suggestions from the first Mass Effect and fixing annoying things like the inventory system. They did however add that really annoying probe mining system that had a way of chewing up gaming time that you really wanted to spend blowing bad dudes up. A great looking game, I look forward to taking on the Repears in Part 3.

1 – Dragon Age: Origins – Awakening

There it is, number one… and it’s an expansion. It’s not surprising that the expansion to the highest rated game of 2009 would take place as the best PC RPG of 2010. Building off the enthralling story of Dragon Age: Origins, Awakening throw’s your character right back into the fray. Apparently the Darkspawn are NOT dead so you have to quest again to defeat them once more. A must play, but be sure to play Dragon Age: Origins first.

Poll: What was the Best RPG PC Game of 2010?

mass effect 2 pc

I need to hear it from you, what was the best RPG game on PC to come out in 2010? We certainly had a lot of great games from the very beginning of the year with Mass Effect 2 all they way to the November release of Fallout New Vegas. We also had Minecraft make it into Beta with some seriously improved Multiplayer Mode.

Below is a list of all the games I can think of that came out last year. I’ve also included expansions because groups like Blizzard include a lot of extra content in their expansions.

Bioware Countdown Revealed: Bioware Bazaar

BioWareBazaar

While I was dreaming in my sleep last night about slaying dragons and what not, the mysterious countdown timer on Bioware’s page reached zero. For those who don’t know, about a week ago Bioware placed an untitled timer on it’s main website as well as the Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age: Origins. Today the mystery is solved!

So what was realeased?

A new expansion? The announcement of Mass Effect 3? No, it is a super awesome competition to win free stuff simply by participating in community activities. It’s called:

So how to you win stuff?

The bazaar is a place you can compete in Auctions using Bioware tokens. You earn these tokens by doing stuff like signing up, registering your games and answering questions. Pretty easy yea?

The items you can auction on range from US$2,000 Mass Effect 2 computers to Bioware branded beanies and books(full list here). Auctions start on April 5 so you have around one week to get as many tokens as you can get. If you want to get started now, head over to the Bioware Bazaar. Don’t worry about having to make yet another account on yet another website again, you can simply log in using your EA Master Account and clicking the Bioware Bazaar picture at the top.

If you don’t own DAO or ME2 you can still win

Bioware have guaranteed that you won’t need to spend any money to enter this competition. If you don’t own the games that you get tokens for registering, you can simply fill out a questionnaire to prove your awesomeness and pick up the points anyway.

If you want to grab the games anyway (like me), I just picked up Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age: Origins – Awakening including shipping for A$113.85. They would not let me ship DAO to Australia. I did however get it on eBay for just A$30 including shipping! If I can though I usually stick to Amazon simply because I trust the brand and they have always looked after me with troubleshooting.

To buy in a store here in Australia it would have cost me A$258.95 for all 3 games. Simple proof that it’s better to go online for your games.

For more info and to start earning tokens follow the link.

Before I go, I want to know if anyone wins an Auction next week so let’s keep everyone up to date in the comments below.

UPDATE: This competition is only available to those who live in the USA (except for New York and Florida who are also out). This is due to Bioware not making sure that the terms and conditions met competition laws of every country and state. Big stuff up by them which has resulted in quite a kerfuffle on the Bioware forums.

Bioware has promised more competitions for the excluded countries at a later date.
